The Basics of Blocking and Filtering Websites

At X3watch, we know plenty of our customers want internet blocking and filtering, and we’ve worked hard to include those. But I want to take a moment to talk to you about the purpose of blocking and filtering websites.

We believe in blocking. We just don’t believe in trying to insulate yourself from the world, or from all temptation. We include blocking in X3watch to give you an edge, so you that you don’t have to say “no” quite as often.

But the reality is this: no matter how good the software, there’s no bullet-proof blocking.

China is the most populous country in the world, with 30,000 government-employed engineers and billions of dollars being spent on blocking the internet – and they can’t do it. Just a few determined hackers can defeat it.

We’re just a small non-profit with a fraction of a fraction of China’s blocking budget. We aren’t going to get everything, which is why we believe blocking is just a small component of the real thing: accountability.

This isn’t about offering only great choices; it’s about training ourselves to make healthy choices in the midst of temptation. Accountability is the key to making that happen.

That’s the reality. X3watch can help you deal with that reality and bring it into your reality.
